Simple Luts have you covered as each have their own finely tuned conversion LUTS that were filmed like all the other cameras with in the Simple LUT space, using X-Rite Color Checker cards and X-Rite White Balance cards filmed entirely on location in the various conditions and using the different camera brands and the ND filter brands as each ND filter has it's own color cast and characteristics but you can read about that HERE.

For the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 we have tailored LUTS for use with the various ND brands and also included in your LUT packs are the  NO ND FILTER AUTO SHUTTER LUT PACK, while still maintain the frame rate, generally the best is 50p / 60p no ND filter is applied and shutter is set to Auto. White balance is always locked off at 5600K like all cameras used in the Simple LUT family

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 individual LUT Pack includes :

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Settings

Here’s a simple setup guideline for the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 to ensure optimal video quality, with an emphasis on using simple LUTs and ND filters:

Set White Balance

Lock the white balance at 5600K. This ensures consistent color temperature, especially when shooting outdoors in daylight, providing a solid foundation for color grading with simple LUTS.

Adjust ISO

Set the ISO to the lowest possible value to reduce noise and achieve the cleanest image quality. This is crucial for maintaining the integrity of your footage when applying LUTS in post-production.

Adjust Frame Rate

Choose your frame rate based on the desired effect, such as 24fps for a cinematic feel or 60fps for slow-motion footage. Consistency in frame rate aids in maintaining uniformity when applying LUTS across different shots.

Set Shutter Speed

Set your shutter speed to double your frame rate. For example, if you're shooting at 24fps, set the shutter speed to 1/50th of a second. This follows the 180-degree shutter rule, giving your footage natural motion blur, which is essential for achieving a cinematic look. We recommend using 50p/60p with 1/100 or 1/120th shutter speeds, respectively, as this allows you to utilise slow-motion and slightly darkens the image, unless using Auto Shutter with No ND filter, then just frame rate is the same.

Use ND Filters

To maintain correct exposure with the above settings, use ND filters. Different ND filter stops allow you to adapt to various lighting conditions without altering your shutter speed or ISO. Choose ND filters from trusted brands that are included on our lists to ensure high-quality, consistent results. Using Simple LUTS alongside these filters enhances the dynamic range and color accuracy of your footage, making it easier to achieve a polished look in post-production.

Apply Simple LUTs

After capturing your footage, apply simple LUTs designed for D-LogM or HLG profiles. These LUTS work well with footage shot using ND filters, helping to bring out the full dynamic range and color depth captured in the scene. The combination of ND filters and LUTs simplifies the color grading process, ensuring professional-looking results with minimal effort. Please note that HLG LUTs need to be conformed for use in a Rec.709 color space

Using the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 in DLog-M or HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) can greatly enhance the dynamic range and flexibility of your footage, especially when you plan to do extensive color grading in post-production. Here’s how to best utilize these profiles:

DLog-M Settings

Why Use DLog-M?

DLog-M captures a wider dynamic range, preserving more detail in both the shadows and highlights. It provides a flat color profile that’s ideal for professional color grading, allowing you to achieve a specific cinematic look.

Recommended Settings

Resolution & Frame Rate: Record in 4K at 24fps for cinematic quality, or 60fps if you want the option to slow down footage.

ISO Settings: Set ISO Min to 100 and ISO Max to 400 or 800. Keeping ISO as low as possible reduces noise, which is especially important in DLog-M where noise can be more noticeable.

Shutter Speed: Follow the 180-degree shutter rule by using ND filters to set the shutter speed to 1/48th for 24fps (or 1/50th as the closest available option).

White Balance: Manually set white balance to 5600K to ensure consistency.

EV Compensation: Set to -0.7 to -1.0 for slight underexposure, which helps protect highlights in DLog-M and can be recovered in post-production. This is only available if using Auto Shutter mode.

Sharpness: Choose low or medium sharpness to reduce in-camera sharpening, allowing for more natural results that can be fine-tuned in post-production.

HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) Settings

Why Use HLG?

HLG is designed for High Dynamic Range (HDR) displays, offering more vibrant colors and greater detail in highlights and shadows without extensive grading. Included in your downloaded LUT pack are HLG to SDR conversion LUTS, calibrated like all the other included LUTS. Import to a Rec.709 and conform (automatically in FCPX), and your footage will look amazing, almost like HDR.

Recommended Settings

Resolution & Frame Rate: Record in 4K at 24fps for a cinematic look, or 60fps for smooth, high-quality motion.

ISO Settings: Set ISO Min to 100 and ISO Max to 400 or 800. Keeping ISO low helps maintain detail and dynamic range.

Shutter Speed: Use the 180-degree shutter rule (e.g., 1/48th for 24fps) and apply ND filters to achieve this in bright conditions.

White Balance: Manually set white balance to 5600K for consistency across shots. HLG tends to exaggerate colors slightly, but our LUTS are designed to make footage look perfectly balanced and not oversaturated.

EV Compensation: Set to -0.3 to -0.7 for slight underexposure, which helps retain details in the highlights. This is only necessary when using Auto Shutter mode.

Sharpness: Keep sharpness low or medium, similar to DLog-M, for more control in post-production.

General Tips for Both Profiles

Color Grading

For DLog-M, apply one of the appropriate LUTS from your downloaded pack that matches the ND filter used and the brand, specifically designed for DLog-M footage. Use this as a starting point, then fine-tune the grade or leave it as is, perhaps with a slight exposure tweak for optimal results.

For HLG, less intensive grading may be required. Focus on subtly enhancing colors and contrast to maintain the HDR effect. Our LUTS are designed to cover all bases for SDR delivery.

Post-Production

Ensure your editing software supports DLog-M and HLG workflows. Use appropriate color space settings to handle the footage correctly. If delivering in SDR (Standard Dynamic Range), carefully convert HLG footage to maintain the intended look.

Monitoring

When shooting in these profiles, be aware that the footage will appear flat (DLog-M) or slightly washed out (HLG) on your display. Trust your settings and plan to adjust in post-production.
